Romancing Saga 2 part 19: Infiltration

I get back to Fort Pile o' Kanji, and the guy who asked me for money is in the bar. I talk to him, and suddenly we're outside and it's dark. Uh... what exactly did I give you 20,000 bucks for, guy? He says something to me and scampers off. I catch up to him at the southmost part of town, around the corner from the fort's entrance.

He leads me further south to a secret passage. We're infiltrating the fort by boat, it seems!

We sail into the fort, and the boat sinks. Guess we're stuck in here. Hope they've got their worst guys on the door...

Uh, probably not. I open a door, and suddenly: Monsters, dozens of them. The big thing is an Ogre, and it's not too bad though it takes the whole party a turn and a half to take it down. Bear goes down in one of the fights (Current LP: 3) but we otherwise do well enough. Wandering around and killing things nets Bear a new sword though, with Attack 19 as opposed to the measly 9 he had before. Guess he won't become a barehanded fighting master after all!

There are werewolves in here, and one of their powers is Berserk. It's the real deal- the werewolf gets a touch of healing and next turn will attack absolutely anything for heavy damage. Including itself, which wins me a fight easily.

Hellhound! That seems like a pretty obvious name to me.

It's also the worst thing I've fought so far, as it has a Fire Shield ability that hits the next person that attacks it for 270-some damage. At least it wasn't Bear or Therese.

Treasure! Oh boy. Yeah, I sure loves me some treasure. Gulp.

I'm just as happy not to have seen Mimics in a long, long time. I get 180,000 Crowns for Avalon... and then there's this. It's a relatively weak Greatsword, but it has the Kanji for "Light" in the name. And a description that mentions either demons or magic. I'm going to put it on James as a backup weapon- he's our Greatsword specialist and if it has a special ability it may be of use later. I try it out once, but nothing interesting happens.

And then we encounter a pair of Hellhounds. This may well be our downfall...
