News Roundup! 1/8/11

That Guy is sleeping off some extreme stomach discomfort at the moment, so Mother/Earthbound Zero will recommence tomorrow! And now, the news:

First off, this week's special guest in Dragon Quest IX is Kiefer Gran of Dragon Quest/Warrior VII and Dragon Quest Monsters Caravan Hearts! Be sure your Hero is an Armamentalist if you want his shoes, and make sure the DS thinks it's your birthday if you'd like to be able to equip his hair. Also, you may have missed Ms. Bianca Whitaker from Dragon Quest V who appeared over the last few weeks. I did, since she didn't appear on a Friday as is customary. She gives an extra gift to Mages.

Next, what is to me a long-awaited announcement: Gurren Lagann will be in the next Super Robot Wars game! Also, the version of Mazinger Z in this SRW will be specifically from Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Chapter, the first movement in what I'm increasingly sure is going to be G-Gundam director Yasuhiro Imagawa's great unfinished symphony. (Well, one of. The guy kind of has a problem with doing a whole story one way or the other.) Between this, Tactics Ogre and the nifty 2D Final Fantasy IV remake, it's a good year to own a PSP. Go figure!

Lastly, if you're near a Gamestop, you may want to stop in tomorrow for a Shiny Raikou. If you don't get there in time they might go and tell you that you should've preordered it, which is usually what they tell me five minutes before I drive six blocks in any direction to a store ending in -Mart.

That's it for today- completely uninformed wandering through games in foreign languages resumes tomorrow!

Torneko 30: It might be safer in the Dungeon.

At the end of Floor 18 I'm out of Arrows and Bread, but up to 4 Escape Scrolls. If I don't find bread soon I may call it- I've got some great stuff I don't want to lose.

There is a MAJOR Monster House here. I'm trying it, but if the odds don't go my way I'm out.

Torneko 29: Feeling less like the Fussbudget.

The next run was a good but dull one, which is why I'm not doing the play by play for it. It would up netting me about 10K and some decent gear and an Escape Scroll for this coming run. I'm hoping this will be The One. I may well be able to hit Floor 27 AND my 50,000 goal at the same time if I'm lucky, and smart. Really I'd settle for one or the other at this point. I'm not greedy.

For this run I choose a plated Dragon Shield, a Power +3 Ring, and the Escape Scroll. The power ring should offset the lack of a weapon a bit, and it leaves a sword in the vault in case I screw up and lose all my stuff AGAIN. Let's go!

Torneko 28: Don't call it Groundhog Day.

Unfortunately all roads out of town lead directly to the Mystery Dungeon, so I ain't finding no marriage counselor anytime soon.

But on my way to the Dungeon I think: maybe I'm being too hard on my wife. Maybe I've been cursed, and Lance Town is the only place in the world I can stay where I'm not immediately sucked into a Mystery Dungeon. Maybe she's trying to make the town into a decent place to spend my exile?  I could forgive finding a little solace in a younger, fatter man under those conditions. Of course, making me collect all this money while I'm in there is a little insensitive, but since I'm there anyway we do have a kid to take care of... Oh well. No time for deep thoughts when you've got a deep dungeon to contend with.

Torneko 27: An Economist, Mr. Taloon is Not.

I am SO sick of the Clay Dolls that I could spit- I'm perpetually at Level 16 because they keep dropping my level before I can kill them. On floor 21, this is a major problem. Also, since HP is determined at random, I've wound up with two fewer HP than my spectacular 100 HP as seen at the end of the last post. Isn't that just GREAT?

Torneko 26: Wherein Things Go Unsettlingly Well.

Okay, I'm going back. Maybe if I find whatever the King wants on Floor 27, he'll grant me a divorce or throw that little shit Mondo into a nice, not-at-all-mysterious dungeon somewhere.

Mother (earthbound 0) Flailthrough - Day 5 (mi gato es un queso!)

Well, it's back to traveling, since I think that I've found everything there is in this area... Of course I could be entirely wrong, but I don't know, and have no way of finding out without cheating. Since there's one area I can think of I haven't searched, it's back to the zoo and taking the road west toward adventure! I follow the road west, then north, and finally east before I encounter my first new, entirely insane looking enemy!

Hey, Hovering Sombero. Gently waving in the air above the meadow. Softly floating in the sky outside the window. Hovering Sombrero don't be shy.
It looks like I'm being attacked by some form of rogue sombrero, though I think this is supposed to be a UFO. I remember that they were all over Earthbound, and I also remember that they had a laser weapon that was a massive pain in the butt, so I'm hoping it doesn't have that in this version...
