Frivolous Fridays: My Other Fandom

Since I've not had time to start my next Ogre Battle stage yet and I'm feeling especially un-clever, having a cold as I dol, today seemed like a good time to remind you that I am still part of the TF Radio Network, and we had a great Radio Free Cybertron this week! Peter Van talks about the Fun Publications/Botcon credit-card fiasco, and we get details on exactly how bad their security was. I could say a lot of things about it, but Peter says them all a lot better. And we run into the interesting quandry of a lot of people being unhappy with how FunPub is running Botcon... but the alternative as things stand might be no Botcon, and that's pretty much the social nucleus of Transformers fandom right there. So that makes it an extremely touchy subject.

The downloadable version of the show should also have a long conversation I had with John DeLuna and ExVee about the state of fan involvement with our favorite toy brands, and what I feel may have to happen to that involvement for those toy lines to survive. In short, it's kind of a hard time to be a Transformers fan right now. But an interesting one!

We also talk about the overly-broad terms of the Botcon dealers' table contract, and it's basically so broad that they could use it as an excuse to take damn near anything from your table and not give it back. It's ultimately all going to come down to how it's enforced- and not to get political here, but legislation that leaves itself open to the caprice of those who enforce the law is a bad, bad idea. I'm like one of two members of the RFC regulars not going to Botcon, which is a shame- it's gonna be a damn interesting year.

Ogre Battle 33: This is an Ex-Raven

...gosh, what's this? While everyone else was playing in traffic, Warren and his Hellhounds waltzed all the way over here and liberated a town! (And my rep probably took a hit for that- Necromancers tend to be unpopular people...) But this will make a decent staging ground when we decide it's time for Rauny to face the stage boss. And it's not gonna be long for that, I don't think.

...oh noes, Kamui and Ellis both lost their fights and the town's unguarded? What do we do?

Ogre Battle 32: Side, Meet Thorn

Ninja Masters are the Ninja equivalent of Mage/Goetics. Nasty, nasty group-attack magic. Gilbert gets in a scuffle with one and loses BIG. He limps back to the shop town to lick his wounds- if that were two group attacks instead of one we'd have been looking at a wipeout here. Rauny could be a force to be reckoned with on this battlefield, but because she's just even with the stage levels I hold her back because I want those Valks to grow up to be Muses themselves.

Ogre Battle 31: Rauny Days

Incoming! Ravens and Cockatrices. Nothing that's gonna faze Kamui and Gilbert. I hope. I've got 7 League Boots if I need to step up security, though.

FLAIL meets with Rauny, a Muse of the Highlands (described as a Paladin in the US version, so I assume they mean she's a Holy Knight or somesuch). She wants to help bring peace and justice and crap like that back to the land, and apparently my reputation and stats are good enough to satisfy her that I'm not a big evil jerk or anything.

Final Fantasy IV Part 54 It's homeopathic! (Late edition!)

Ogre Battle 30: The Die is Kast

Now that Warren is one step closer to achieving his dreams, we head to the Valley of Kastro. Which I assume is in Kuba.

Ogre Battle Extra: Zenobia Revisited, Part II

So about that unfinished business.

Out can run, but he/she/it cannot hide. Well, it can hide, but it will be found. That was always a dumb saying anyway.

Here is the hidden town of Anglem.

Here is the wizard Borgnine who lives in the hidden town of Anglem. He seems an Ernest fellow. Anyway, he collects Sentoul Demons, which you may remember Posha gave us as a gift for saving her mom's live a few stages back. We say no to the first thing he offers, which is a measly 10,000 Goth. But the second thing? The Undead Staff.

Warren is now a Necromancer with 2 group magic attacks. If I can just get a hold of an Undead Ring, we're cookin'.

And the rest of our time between stages is spent going back to an area where we can load up on Revives.
